TIOGA is a beautifully crafted ocean-going cutter designed by one of the best in
the business, Bill Garden. Built for safety at sea and recently equipped for long
distance cruising, she is capable of fast passage-making in all weather conditions
and can be easily handled by two persons. The heart and soul of any craft on the water
is the design of the hull. Even more important than the sheer beauty of the design
in the blueprint stage is how she takes to the water. Well, the results are in.
The Fast Passage 39 has stood the test of scrutiny by ocean cruising sailors world
wide ... She's fast! She's beautiful, she's elegantly finished, and she is very
livable!
To lovers of classic design elements, Tioga is an aesthetic
delight - the flare of an incredible clipper bow and the seaworthiness and curves of a
canoe stern. Between the two, the stem and the stern, Tioga is all cruising boat and
has, among many other things, considerable well-finished teak and joinery work. She
is capable of accommodating up to six people in three separate compartments, though more
practically, the saloon is better reserved for living space limiting the party to two
couples. A nice touch throughout the interior is the use of soft-finish fabrics and
light-coloured laminate on the countertops and backsplashes, giving the warmth of a
comfortable den.

The Fast Passage 39 is a husky, powerful yacht with a
modified-full encapsulated lead keel and a skeg-protected rudder under her rather shallow
hull. She is remarkably maneuverable even under sharply reduced sail. Her
topside is a pleasure to work on and she is rigged to the convenience of a short-handed
crew. At 22,000 pounds, she is middle of the road in displacement and, with her
cutter rig and both headsails on roller furling, she is a comfortable, easy and forgiving
boat to handle.
She has a PVC foam-cored hand-laid fiberglass hull, with transverse frames molded in as
attachment points for the bulkheads. Her hull exterior is a very handsome two-part
poly-urethane Awlgrip Royal Blue. The inner surfaces of the hull within the cabins
are lined with horizontal cedar-strips giving her warmth of colour and a further measure
of condensation control. Her deck and cabin are balsa-cored fiberglass, and cream in
colour. With a long deckhouse, the cockpit is relatively shorter and the offset
companionway is well aft.
This Fast Passage is built by Philbrook Shipyard, one of Canada's more outstanding and
longstanding custom builders, located in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada. A full set of
blue prints is available and included with the boat.
